1987 Monte Carlo SS with a 5.3L LSx V8

Summit Racing used their 1987 Monte Carlo SS called “Prodi-G” to show aftermarket parts would increase power while lowering emissions. In the engine bay they installed a Summit Racing 5.3 L long block on ICT Billet swap mounts. The crate motor uses an LM7 iron block, GM crank and rods, aluminum flat-top pistons, Summit Racing Pro LS camshaft, and 799 aluminum heads. Summit Racing added FAST LSX intake manifold, Trick Flow TFX 36 lb/hr fuel injectors, and Hedman Hot Rodz engine swap headers. Behind the motor is a Boss Hog Night Stalker converter, built 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission, and Moser 12-bolt rear end with 3.73 ratio. The powertrain produced 302 hp (222 kW) to the wheels. Summit Racing improved handling with a Detroit Speed steering box and QA1 Level 2 full suspension kit. The brakes received Wilwood DynaPro six-piston calipers with 12.1-inch rotors in front and Wilwood Dynalite four-piston calipers with 12.1-inch rotors in back. Covering those are Forgeline GF3 wheels (18×8, 18×9) wearing Kenda Vezda UHP Summer tires (245/40, 255/40). You can watch the project’s progress in the build series.
