Flyin’ Miata’s ND Miata with a LS3
After Flyin’ Miata got their hands on a 2016 Mazda Miata ND they immediately began stuffing a LSx V8 into it. After months of work they are now unveiling their finished prototype and taking orders. Because of the extra engine bay room in the ND platform the swap actually went easier in terms of fitment than the previous models. The prototype’s powertrain consists of a 525 horsepower 6.2 L LS3 V8, Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission, and Camaro SS rear end. To get the engine to work the team had to remove the ND’s electric steering rack and replaced it with a more conventional hydraulic rack. They also installed a CANBus Triple box that allows the GM and Mazda electronics talk to each other. The finished project weighs 2,592 lb and has a 53.4% front and 46.6% rear weight balance. This compares to the factory weight of 2,328 lb with a 52% front and 48% rear weight balance. If you are interested in owning your own, the turn-key LSx powered ND package starts at $49,995.
