1986 Mustang GT with a Godzilla V8
JH Restorations created several amazing vehicles at their company in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. We’ve covered their LSx-powered Celica and their EcoBoost-powered Merkur. For their next project JH Restorations set out to transform a 1986 Ford Mustang GT into “Foxilla”; the ultimate Fox Body Mustang.
The project’s heart is a 7.3 L Godzilla V8 producing 550 hp (404 kW) and 626 lb-ft (848 Nm) of torque. The big-block motor features a Brian Tooley Racing Truck Norris camshaft, Ford Performance intake manifold and throttle body, Holley oil pan, and Holley high-mouth accessory drive. A set of custom exhaust headers route to a stainless steel exhaust. Behind the motor is a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission. A Driveshaft Shop aluminum driveshaft sends power to a Ford Super 8.8-inch rear end with a limited-slip differential and 3.50 ratio.
JH Restorations upgraded the 40-year-old suspension with Ridetech’s front SLA (short-long-arm) coilover suspension and independent rear suspension. The braking system received a late-model Mustang’s hydroboost master cylinder to assist Wilwood six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors in front. The rear brakes are single-piston calipers.
The Mustang’s iconic body was enhanced with custom steel fender flares and custom steel and aluminum ground effects. JH Restorations installed a Cervini fiberglass hood and Carters Custom Aero aluminum diffuser. The entire body was covered in BASF “Ford Shelter Green” paint. Under the fender flares are Forgeline CV3C wheels (18×10.5, 18×11) wearing Toyo Proxes Sport tires (275/35, 295/35).
Opening the driver-side door shows a custom interior filled with Relicate leather. The premium leather is used on the door panels, dashboard, and console. The driver and passenger sit on custom-shaped TMI seats covered in black leather with distressed brown leather inserts. The center console holds a Lokar automatic shifter made to look like a manual transmission shifter.
