Custom John Deere 5020 with a 18.6 L V16

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Dave Will is the creator of “Johnzilla”; a custom John Deere for tractor pulling. The project started when Dave heard a company was scrapping a Detroit Diesel 16V-71 motor because of damage to the block. Detroit Diesel created the 16V-71 by combining two 9.3 L (568 ci) 8V-71 V8 motors together. The result is a 18.6 L (1,136 ci) two-stroke diesel V16 capable of 635 hp (474 kW) and at least 1,700 lb-ft (2304 Nm) of torque. After Dave repaired the damage he installed the motor into a John Deere 5020 chassis. To fit the massive motor, Dave lengthened the chassis three feet. Dave often competes at the Vanderburgh County Fair in Evansville, Indiana.
