Nissan 300ZX with a 4.3L Chevy V6
Trevor purchased a 1993 Nissan 300ZX. Unfortunately the factory 3.0 L VG30DE V6 was damaged. Trevor decided to swap the Nissan motor for a V6 based on the fifth-generation Chevy small-block V8.
In the engine bay Trevor swapped a 4.3 L LV3 V6 from a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The motor sits back 1.5 inches on custom mounts. The LV3 motor features a BTR Chuck Norris Jr camshaft, Moroso oil pan, and modified 6th-gen Camaro LT1 exhaust manifolds. On top of the motor is a shortened low-profile V8 intake manifold. The accessory drive system comes from a 6th-generation Camaro LT1 with a Jeep Liberty power steering pump.
Trevor had issues with the engine’s tune. After researching he discovered the USA tune is for an automatic transmission. Since Trevor is using a manual transmission, he then went with a Mexican-market Silverado ECU tune. This solved the throttle hang for manual transmissions.
The drivetrain starts with a custom adapter plate and re-drilled flywheel allowing the LV3 V6 to bolt to the factory Nissan five-speed manual transmission. Behind that is a shortened driveshaft sending power to an Infiniti Q45 rear differential with a 3.96 ratio.
Trevor upgraded the coupe’s handling with Tein lowering springs and KYB adjustable shocks. The subframe received a set of polyurethane bushings. The interior was left stock except for a Tinker Electronics 10-inch digital display. Trevor future plans are for some boost either from a turbocharger or supercharger.
