Boreham Motorworks’ Ford Escort RS with a 10,000 RPM Inline-Four
Boreham Motorworks is building 150 special Ford Escort Mk1 RS cars costing £295,000 or $400,000. The heart of the project is Boreham’s custom “TEN-K” 2.1 L motor producing 330 hp at 10,000 rpm. The naturally aspirated inline-four features a 16-valve head, forged rods, and billet crankshaft, cradle, and dry sump. Boreham backs the motor with a twin-plate clutch and custom five-speed manual transmission featuring a dog-leg first gear. A custom two-piece driveshaft sends power to a floating rear axle with a torque-biasing limited-slip differential and 5.125 ratio. The car rides on a tubular steel subframe with MacPherson strut front suspension and custom R53 Suspension shocks and springs. In back is a six-link suspension using 4 radius arms and 2 Watt’s links. Braking is handled by four-piston calipers with 300 mm vented rotors in front and two-piston calipers with 260 solid rotors in back. A set of custom wheels (15×7, 15×8) wear Yokohama A052 tires (205/50, 225/50).
