RWD 2017 Lincoln Continental with a 6.8L V10
In 2022 the team at Build It Yourself set out to create the ultimate tenth-generation Lincoln Continental. They achieved this by converting a 2017 Continental to rear-wheel drive and build a unique V10 motor.
Build It Yourself first built a 6.8 L Ford Triton V10. However this is not your standard SOHC V10 you might find in a Ford F-350 truck. The team retained the factory crank but upgraded the motor with Traum pistons, Callies Compstar rods, GT500 oil pump, and custom 5-to-1 exhaust headers.
The most unique aspect of the V10 is the custom DOHC 40-valve heads. Build It Yourself created them by cutting and welding four Terminator Cobra 4-valve V8 heads. They added custom camshafts, Ford GT rockers, and Ferrea valves. Air will travel through dual throttle bodies on a custom intake manifold. The DOHC V10 produces 495 hp (369 kW) and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque to the wheels on a FuelTech FT550 ECU.
Build It Yourself continued the RWD conversion using a GT500 Mustang front subframe and S550 Mustang rear subframe. The drivestrain uses an upgraded Mustang MT82 six-speed manual transmission, custom driveshaft, and Mustang 8.8-inch rear end. As one might expect the build required a lot of custom fabrication such a new firewall and tunnel. You can watch the project’s build process on their channel.
