C20XE-Powered Ford Escort
Adam Beard from Twin Engine Corsa interviewed Alex Darcy about this Ford Escort Mk1. Alex explains the Escort has had several motors in the build process. Starting with a Ford Zetec inline-four, Alex then swapped a turbo C20LET inline-four. After that he went with a Mazda MX-5 inline-four before settling on a naturally aspirated 2.0 L C20XE inline-four. The motor features a steel crank and rods, Pauter pistons, ported head, Kent camshafts, and individual Jenvey 48 mm throttle bodies. On the dyno, the motor made 245 hp (180 kW) at 8,900 rpm on 95 octane fuel. Behind that is a Butcher Race Engineering adapter plate connecting to a Mazda RX-8 six-speed manual transmission. Power is transmitted through an English rear end with a 3.89 ratio. Alex plans to upgrade the rear end.
