Lotus Exige with a Turbo G16 Inline-Three
Luke Shipp from Lookship interviewed Ross Hobsons about his amazing Lotus Exige project. Ross explains it started with a salvaged Exige S2 and 2ZZ inline-four making 190 hp (141 kW). That was not enough for Ross so he started looking for engine options. He considered Honda and Audi power plants. Ross chose to use a turbocharged Toyota G16E inline-three from a GR Yaris. The G16E motor is built by DJR Performance with forged pistons and rods, Kelford camshafts, ported head, Kelford valve springs, and DJ Racecars dry sump. The motor is capable of 700 hp (514 kW) but will make approximately 450-500 hp (330-367 kW). Ross will pair the motor to a Sadev ST90 seven-speed sequential transmission with a limited-slip differential. The exterior features a GT3 widebody, many composite panels, and polycarbonate windows. Listen to Ross explain the amazing work going into this car in the video below.
