1988 Defender 110 with a 4.4L JCB Turbodiesel
Luke Dale and his company Diesel Pump UK transformed this 1988 Land Rover Defender 110. In the engine bay he swapped a turbocharged 4.4 L JCB TCAE-108 diesel inline-four capable of 108 kW (145 hp) at 2200 rpm and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque at 1500 rpm. Luke installed a custom billet oil sump, charge-air cooler, and custom 3-inch stainless steel exhaust. Behind the motor Luke installed a heavy-duty clutch and upgraded “Stumpy” R380 five-speed manual transmission. A 3:1 ratio transfer case splits power between an upgraded factory front axle and rebuilt Salisbury rear axle. Everything is supported by a new chassis with 2-inch suspension lift and four-wheel disc brakes. Luke also installed new firewall, doors, and fuel tank.
