Twin-Engine RWD Mini For Sale

Z Cars built this custom 1990 Rover Mini Mayfair (Mk 5) in the early-2000’s. We first witnessed the unique car in 2020 when it was for sale in England. After that it was imported to the USA where it is for sale on Bring a Trailer in Monarch Beach, California.

Behind the rear steel firewall are two carbureted 998 cc inline-four motors and six-speed sequential transmissions from 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycles. Each motor features four Mikuni 40 mm carburetors (rebuilt in 2024), five-valve cylinder head, electric water pump, Tony Law 4-into-1 exhaust manifold, and carbon fiber muffler. Each motor produces 160-170 hp.

The six-speed sequential transmissions feature straight-cut gears and Barnett Racing clutches. A Z Cars drivebox and Quaife limited-slip differential transmit the power to the rear wheels. The unique setup allows the car to be driven by one engine. Reverse is handled by an electric motor.

Z Cars installed their tubular front and rear subframes. The suspension features adjustable coilovers, rose-jointed tie bars, negative camber lower arms, and Z Cars’ adjustable rear radius arms. It stops thanks to Wilwood four-piston front brakes.

The red painted body uses Mini Sport fiberglass doors and carbon fiber front and trunk lid. The Mini Miglia wheel arch extensions surround Compomotive ML 13-inch wheels with Yokohama Advan A048 175/50 tires.

On the inside you find a Curley carbon fiber dashboard holding a MoTeC ADL2 digital display. In front of that is a quick-release Sparco steering wheel. The driver and occupant sit in Cobra seats with Sabelt five-point harnesses surrounded by a roll cage.
