1970 Chevelle with a 2800 hp Twin-Turbo V8

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Blazin Rodz set out to combine the power of a Pro Mod car with the designs of a GT Cup car. After many hours of work they created “Doughboy”; a custom 1970 Chevelle unlike anything you have seen before.

The heart of the project is a twin-turbo 540 ci (8.8 L) Brodix big-block V8 built by ACE Racing Engines capable of 2,800 hp. Blazin Rods installed the motor 15 inches further back in the engine bay. It features two Precision 8385 Next Gen turbochargers, Daily Engineering billet dry sump, and custom air-to-water intercooler which is also the front core support.

Blazin Rods fabricated custom stainless steel headers leading to a side-exit exhaust with 3D-printed tips. The motor runs on a Motec M150 ECU with two PDM30 boxes. The combo eliminates all fuses and relays in the electrical system.

A vehicle with 2800 hp needs to have a strong drivetrain. Blazin Rodz started with a RPS quad carbon plate clutch paired to a 6XDX six-speed sequential transmission. The transmission features an XAP Technologies shift actuator allowing for 30 ms shifts. The next piece of the drivetrain is a PST carbon fiber driveshaft with 1480 universal joints. From there torque is transferred to a billet 7075 aluminum rear end with a Tubeworks CrossTie billet 9-inch third member with a Wavetrac limited-slip differential.

Everything is supported by a reinforced Art Morrison chassis. Blazin Rods built a custom front suspension using C7 Corvette geometry. In the back they made a custom 4-link suspension. Both feature custom billet sway bars and JRI coilovers. Blazin Rods upgraded the brakes to Wilwood SX6R six-piston calipers finished in 24k gold.

Blazin Rods took inspiration from a modern GT Cup car when designing the custom widebody. Saticoy Customs painted the body in Porsche Night Blue metallic paint. They added a carbon fiber flat bottom, stainless steel grill, and 7075 aluminum splitter. Blazin Rods used 3D-printing to make the custom bumpers, headlight housings, and Infinity taillights. The finishing exterior touch is a set of custom billet wheels (20×13, 20×15) from Kompression Wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires (325/24, 345/30).

The Chevelle’s custom interior starts with a set of BMW G80 M3 carbon fiber seats with Sparco harnesses flanked by custom Avant-Garde door panels. The driver controls the car using an Audi R8 steering wheel with paddle shifters mounted on a custom tilt column by Blazin Rods. Behind that is a Motec C1812 digital display. The occupants are protected by a Lifeline’s 360 fire suppression system and custom roll cage featuring 6061 billet aluminum A and B pillars, door bars, harness bar, and rear V-bars.
