Electric VW Golf

Published in engineswapdepot.com

This 1991 Golf GTI (Mk2) was sent to eDub Conversions in the UK to be converted to electric. The company swapped the factory motor for a Tesla small drive unit from a Model S or Model X. The electric motor produces 270 hp and sits on a custom front subframe. eDub Conversions also installed a 54 kWh battery pack comprising of 24 CALB battery modules giving the Golf 200 miles of range. The battery pack is split with 12 battery modules in the factory engine bay and 12 battery modules in the trunk. eDub converted the Golf to electric power steering and added a custom cooling system to keep the drive unit and battery pack cool. Read more about the project at eDub Conversions’ blog.
