Carbon Fiber Mazda RX-7 Race Car with a Twin-Turbo VK45 V8

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Valtonen Motorsport’s Mazda RX-7 race car was powered by a turbocharged SR20 inline-four. GTi Magazine (Finnish) reports in 2017 Valtonen Motorsport swapped to a twin-turbo VK45 V8. The motor features forged internals, custom camshafts, Supertech valvetrain, Weiss 5-stage dry sump, and carbon fiber intake. The combo is good for 1300 hp (969 kW) and 1300 Nm (958 lb-ft) of torque. Behind the V8 is an Tractive RD236 sequential transmission sending power through a custom driveshaft to a BMW 210 mm rear end. The car’s carbon fiber body and aero sits on a tubular chassis with Alcon six-piston brakes front and back. Valtonen Motorsport recently took the race car to Kymi Ring in Finland for testing. Watch a lap from inside the car in the video below.
