1983 Porsche 944 with a Turbo Audi 1.8T
This 1983 Porsche 944 rolled out of Motor Werks Racing ready for the track with improved performance.
The race car is powered by a turbocharged 1.8 L Audi 20v inline-four installed using Motor Werks Racing’s swap kit. The motor features IE forged rods, JE pistons, stainless steel exhaust valves, Motor Werks Racing oiling system, stainless steel exhaust manifold, and Deka 630 cc injectors.
Boost is generated by a K04 turbocharger with a billet compressor wheel and inconel turbine wheel. The motor produces 315 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. That is sent to the rear wheels through a 016 manual transmission and 2-way limited-slip differential.
The 1,960 lb car rides on Bilstein adjustable shocks with Porsche 968 Club Sport springs. The suspension also uses adjustable sway bars and drop links. Motor Werks Racing converted the 944 to manual steering and installed Wilwood four-piston brakes.
Motor Werks Racing reduced weight by installing fiberglass fenders, bumpers, hood, splitter and Lexan quarter windows. On the back they added a Porsche 924 GTP wing. The 17×9-inch wheels are mounted with 275/40 tires.
