1969 Firebird with a 1400 hp Twin-Turbo 482 ci Pontiac V8
Troy Gudgel and his company BBT Fabrications in Mahomet, Illinois invested many hours building Brad Sather’s 1969 Pontiac Firebird. In the engine bay is a twin-turbo 482 ci Pontiac V8 built by Butler Performance in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee sitting six inches further back. The all-aluminum motor features an IA-II block, forged internals, Edelbrock heads, two Precision 6870 turbochargers, and Holley Dominator ECU. The motor is capable of 1,400 hp and tuned by Carma Performance. Behind the motor is a Rockland RS T56 six-speed manual transmission with straight-cut 1-2 gears and Moser 9-inch rear end with a 3.0 ratio. The car sits on a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis with Wildwood six-piston disc brakes behind EVOD Industries wheels (19×9.5, 19×12). The car won Goodguys Street Machine of the Year 2022 and then went 199.7 mph in the standing mile. View more photos of the car in the FB build album and project page. Listen to Troy explain the many hours of work that went into this creation.
