This 1974 Mercedes 350SL (R107) originally came with a naturally aspirated 3.5 L M116 V8. In 2019 the restoring company SLShop sent the convertible to Electric Classic Cars (ECC) for an electric conversion. There the company installed a HPEVS AC34 dual motor in the engine bay paired to a Mazda MX-5 five-speed manual transmission. A Tesla 53 kWh battery pack gives the car 150 mile range. The battery pack is split with 50% in front and 50% in back. ECC also installed electric power steering and electric vacuum pump. Listen to ECC CEO Richard Morgan explain the project below.
