This 1986 Trabant 601 Deluxe might have shipped with a 594 cc two-stroke two-cylinder engine but it now has twice as many cylinders and 7x as much power. The project started in 2012 when the German owner removed the engine and transmission in front and installed a 1.9 L VW ALE TDI turbo diesel inline-four in back. The engine produces 180 horsepower which was good for a 13.20 sec quarter-mile at 163 kph (101 mph). Recently the owner notched the back of the car by removing the back part of the roof and fabricated a custom rear engine cover.
