MG Midget with a 13B Rotary

Published in engineswapdepot.com

This 1978 MG Midget project started project started after it was submerged in a flood very close to being restored. Obviously this would discourage a lot of owners but not this builder. Instead he decide to go in a completely different direction and make a custom track monster. The factory 1493 cc engine (50-65 hp) was removed and replaced with a naturally aspirated Mazda 13B street ported rotary engine that produces around 170 horsepower. The uprights, brakes, and rear end are from a Miata. The suspension is a custom pushrod system developed by the owner using motorcycle shocks. Some serious fender flares were fabricated to cover the Hoosier slicks running off the much wider Miata track width. The owner even made his own steering wheel from wood and metal frame.
