Dodge D200 with a Twin-Supercharged Big-Block V8
If you are interested in a really powerful Dodge tow rig and a piece of drag racing history then you might be interested in this D200 truck for sale out of Montecito, California.
The seller claims this 1968 Dodge D200 Crew Cab Dually was used to tow J&S East Valley Garage’s top fuel dragster for Crew Chief Jay Roach and Driver Arley Langlo during the 70’s and 80’s.They originally purchased at an auction at Vanderberg Air Force base with a slant-6. But that was swapped for a 440 ci V8 stroked to 512 ci with a Top Fuel billet crank, Venolia forged pistons, and two Paxton centrifugal superchargers. The engine makes 1,000+ lb-ft of torque on 100 octane fuel.
As you might expect the engine can drink a lot and to keep it feed is three 20+ gallon custom fuel tanks with several Holley blue pumps. The seller says the total fuel capacity is over 80 gallons which when full brings the truck to 9,390 lbs.
Behind the engine sits a custom dual disc Borg/Beck clutch and custom pressure plate connected to a SM456 four-speed transmission and a Brownie three-speed overdrive. You can see the shift order plaque on the dashboard. Our modern overdrive transmissions have spoiled us.
Handling the tremendous torque to the rear wheels is a 14-bolt Corporate rear end with 4.10 gears and an oil cooler to keep it cool.
The seller claims the AC still blows cold and the camper has bunk beds and carpeting. You have a place to take a nap at the drag strip if you want.
