Custom 1956 International Truck with a Mustang Powertrain

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Tony Bowens is not the type of person to just sit back and relax during retirement. Almost immediately after retiring he found himself a very unique project to work on. After a year of non-stop work he finished his “InterStang” project was completed.

The name InterStang reflects the combination of a 1956 International truck with a salvaged 2009 Ford Mustang GT. Tony used almost every component from the Mustang from the drivetrain to the interior to the door handles.

The International truck cab was installed on the Mustang chassis. Everything back from the firewall is from the Mustang including the rear suspension and chassis. The front is a straight axle suspension taken from the International. Both front and back are supported by an air suspension.

As mentioned before the Mustang donor offered up its powertrain which includes a 4.6 L 3v Modular V8 connected to either a five-speed TR-3650 manual transmission. The only upgrade preformed to the engine was a pair of Ford Racing camshafts. Out back sits a Ford 8.8″ rear end with either 3.31 or 3.55 gears. Tony is hoping to have a pair of turbochargers hanging off the engine soon.

Inside the cab sits the entire Mustang interior including the seats. The dash required an inch to be removed from both sides to fit. Behind the car sits a custom bed with a Ford F-150 tailgate.
