1978 Ford Thunderbird with a 545 BBF V8
The 1978 Ford Thunderbird came from the factory with either a 302 ci V8, 351 ci V8, or a 400 ci V8 which only produced 166 horsepower. Someone decided that his Thunderbird needed a Ford V8 that produced some serious power.
Under the hood you will find some serious Ford power coming from a 545 ci big-block Ford V8. The engine was built in 2007 and features forged 4.5 stroke crank, Eagle 6.8 H-beam rods, Diamond 12.25:1 pistons, Comp Cams XR304 solid roller cam, and Comp Cam Endure X roller lifters. It runs off a MDS 6AL2 ignition and distributor.
The engine also features TFS Street heads that were ported and polished with stainless valves, Comp Hi-Tech stainless rocker arms, 3/8 pushrods, Comp springs, titanium retainers, and a 1350 cfm SV-1 carburetor.
The owner had only taken it to the track once and it ran 11.01 sec at 124.6 mph. The engine was never dyno’d but the owner estimates it makes 625-650 horsepower.
Behind the engine sits a built C-4 automatic transmission with a Edge 4300 10″ stall converter connected to a Dyno Tech 3.25″ aluminum driveshaft. The rear end is a Currie housing and a Moser diff with 4.30 gears.
