GAZ-24 with a Twin-turbo Ford V8
Vitaliy Chvanin is the Chief Mechanic and driver for Overpower race team. Vitaliy purchased a 1985 GAZ-24-10 in 2009 and has modified just about every component on it.
The GAZ-24 originally came with a 2.5 L ZMZ-402 inline-four but Vitaliy swapped it for a 4.7 L ZMZ-511 V8 with a supercharger. Eventually the 4.7 L V8 ran out of room for power so he swapped the motor once more to a Ford 302 Windsor V8.
The engine has been upgraded with Lunati Voodoo cams and springs, Pro Comp rocker arms and intake, ported heads, 8.0:1 low compression pistons, and twin Carter AFB carburetors. Vitaliy previously had a two roots-type superchargers sitting on top of the engine but eventually went to a single supercharger.
Recently the engine was switched to a twin-turbo system that helps produce about 600 horsepower.
The drivetrain consists of a BMW ZF five-speed manual transmission with a twin-disc clutch. This is connected to a GAZ-24 rear end with a welded differential.
