MGA with a Supercharged Coyote V8
Colin Walker and his brother Steve Walker started building this MG MGA five years ago to compete in land speed racing. Soon after starting the project they wandered into David Chapman’s shop Milner Off Road Racing in Darley Dale, UK for a roll bar. After David talked to the brothers about the project he knew it was something he had to be involved in.
In the beginning Colin the car to be MG powered. Then he hoped to achieve his power goals with a larger Jaguar engine. But they realized they were never going to make enough power to reach 200 mph with any of those engines. To solve the problem the team turned to modern Ford power.
Between the front wheels sits a 5.0 L Coyote V8 with a 2.3 L Whipple supercharger. The engine produces 675 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque thanks to a smaller supercharger pulley and a re-tuned ECU for higher octane fuel.
Behind the engine sits a Liberty Gears built Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission, Milner Off Road Racing CV drive shaft, and Strange Engineering 9″ rear end with a 12-bolt drop out.
Although this is their second time at Bonneville it is only their first time competing. Their previous attempt was during 2014 when heavy rains cancelled the event. The team is hoping to set a record at SCTA Speed Week 2016 in the BFMS body and D engine class.
