VW Cabriolet on a Fiero Chassis with a Turbo Buick V6

There are builders who create unique projects and then there are those who really think outside the box. Take for example this project built by a teacher in California. He started with a 1979 VW Rabbit Cabriolet that had the bottom cut out and welded around a 1988 Pontiac Fiero rolling chassis. Of course they didn’t easily glue together since the Fiero track was five inches wider and wheelbase was one inch shorter. The VW body was offset to the driver’s side to preserve AC connections and the fenders received flares. If that wasn’t unique enough the owner swapped out the Fiero powertrain for a 3.8 L Buick 3800 Series II L67 V6 and four-speed automatic transmission. The Eaton Gen III M90 supercharger was replaced with a Holset HX40 turbocharger which along with the intercooler was run outside the engine bay. Not many owners can watch their turbo spin in the rear-view mirror. The owner estimates the engine is making 220 hp but could easily make more with an upgraded fuel system.
