Renault Formula Powered Peugeot Rally Car
Alex Kelsey began racing using a Subaru rally car he built by himself for the New Zealand Rally Championship while still attending school. Alex designed and built the suspension on the car from scratch. Using what he learned from that project, Alex has built a very impressive and unique race car.
Alex started with a Peugeot Rallycross car. He used it to make molds off the body which allowed him to customize every panel. The only thing left from the original body is the roof. Under the body sits a custom tubular chassis designed and built by Alex.
The car is powered by a Renault Formula 3.5 L V6 which sits behind the driver. Alex got this engine on the “cheap” because Renault changed to a V8 platform in 2012 so all the old V6 engines were for sale. The engine makes 450 to 460 horsepower at 8,500 rpm.
The transmission sits between the driver and co-driver and was built by SADEV. The transmission allows Alex to either use paddle shifter or a sequential shifter. A Life Racing ECU was used because it can control the engine and gear shifting. Another inter
