1997 Mustang with 2007 Supercharged 5.4L V8
This project first started with buying a 2007 5.4L Mustang V8 for $6,000. The engine had only 8,000 miles on it.
The the original plan was to swap the supercharged V8 into a 1998 Mustang until an upgraded 1997 Mustang Cobra came up for sale. The Cobra originally had a 5.0L under the hood. The Cobra was purchased for $5,500 because the motor was bad.
The Cobra came with a full Maximum Motorsports race suspension. It included tubular K and lower A arms, and Bilstein coil overs. It also included an IRS, a MGW shifter to control the T-56 six-speed transmission, upgraded brakes, and a roll cage.
The engine swap went somewhat easy. The only modifications were to the oil filter adapter/alternator bracket and the use of a different alternator. The stock 1997 Cobra ECU was used to control the new engine.
