Mazda Miata with a Turbo Honda K24
Geaux Moto created several wild Miatas at their company in Louisiana. Take for example the Ecoboost-powerd NC Miata they built for track use. This time around we are sharing a 2009 Mazda Miata (NC) Geaux Moto built to compete in the GTC class of Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge.
In the engine bay Geaux Moto swapped a turbocharged 2.4 L Honda K24Z7 inline-four on custom mounts. The motor features ported K20 oil pump, deleted balance shaft, custom 3d-printed stainless steel exhaust manifold, and Garrett G25-700 turbocharger. It runs on a Haltech Elite 1500 ECU and produces 470 hp (345 kW) to the wheels on E85 fuel.
Behind the Honda motor is a Grannas Racing bellhousing surrounding a Tilton twin-disc clutch and bolted to a Tick Performance Road Race T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission. A 3-inch aluminum driveshaft sends power to a fifth-generation Camaro independent rear end with 3.73 ratio supported by a V8 Roadster mount.
Geaux Moto upgraded the Miata’s suspension with a set of SPL control arms, Progress Tech sway bars, and Öhlins DFV (Dual Flow Valve) coilovers. They also installed Wilwood six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors in front and Wilwood six-piston calipers with 12.8-inch rotors in back. Those are covered by Apex VS5RS 18×10-inch wheels with Vitour 275/35 tires.
On the inside Geaux Moto installed an Alcantara-wrapped OMP steering wheel in front of an AIM digital display. Next to that is a custom 3d-printed bezel holding a Garmin catalyst and Haltech 15-button keypad. They swapped the factory seats for a set of Recaro seats and six-point Sparco harnesses. A custom roll cage further protects the occupants.
