This 1992 Ferrari F40 race car has an interesting history. What we can determine from the car’s Iconic Auctioneers’ listing and Simpson Motorsport’s website, it started in 1996 when Ferrari offered Stefano Sebastiani a post crash-test F40 chassis. He then tasked Simpson Motorsport with rebuilding it for endurance racing. The company reinforced the chassis, installed a FIA-spec roll cage, and custom F40 GTE-style composite body. Then in 2001 Simpson Motorsport swapped a naturally aspirated F133 V12 from a Ferrari 550 Maranello. In 2005 the car received a Hewland six-speed sequential transaxle. The auction listing also states the car also has a custom suspension and 18×11-inch front wheels and 18×12.5-inch rear. No word on the type of brakes. The race car competed in 11 events from 2002-2006 before being placed in storage. Iconic Auctioneers will be selling the car on August 23, 2024 at Silverstone Circuit.
