In 2009 Mercedes-Benz transformed a first-generation Mercedes B-class van into the “B55” prototype. The van would have originally come with a 1.5L, 1.7L, 2.0L inline-four running on gasoline or a 2.0L diesel inline-four. As the “B55” badge indicates this van has a much larger displacement motor. Under the small hood sits a 5.5 L M273 V8 producing 388 hp (289 kW) and 530 Nm (390 Nm) of torque. The factory B-class van would be offered in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Mercedes built the “B55” as rear-wheel drive using a 7G-Tronic (722.9) seven-speed automatic transmission and W210 independent rear end.
