RX-7 with a Supercharged 26B Four-Rotor
Curran Brothers Racing (CBR) is a company in New Zealand specializing in building, tuning, and racing high-power rotary engines. We previously shared their Mazda RX-2 with a “26B” four-rotor built for drag racing. CBR recently completed another unique project for a customer. In the engine bay of this third-generation Mazda RX-7 (FD) they installed a supercharged 2.6 L “26B” four-rotor. The motor features CBR’s aluminum center plates, peripheral-porting, Whipple supercharger, Fueltech 80 lb injectors, and Fueltech FT600 ECU. CBR did not report the motor’s output but a naturally aspirated four-rotor will make 500 hp (367 kW) to the wheels. So the supercharger’s 8 psi (0.5 bar) of boost should give it a nice increase in power and torque on the low-end. Behind the motor is a Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission.
