1966 Corvair with a 5.3L LS4 V8

Published in engineswapdepot.com

This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair was built by Windell Gustama from Rapid Auto Solutions. The car is no longer powered by an air-cooled flat-six. Windell swapped a 5.3 L LS4 V8 from a 2007 Chevrolet Impala sitting on a custom rear subframe. The all-aluminum motor features a Comp Stage 2 camshaft, 243 heads, and 2012 6.0 L truck flex fuel injectors. A reprogrammed 2007 Corvette ECU controls the motor. Exhaust is routed through LS9 headers to custom 3-inch stainless steel tubing. An adapter plate from Kit Car Chassis allows the V8 to bolt to a Porsche 996 six-speed manual transaxle with a 3.54 ratio. Windell modified the Corvair’s front control arms to use 1967 Camaro 2-inch drop spindles. He also converted the power steering to electric. Braking is handled by a set of 2016 Camaro SS Brembo four-piston calipers with 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors. Those are covered by 19×9-inch front wheels and 19×10-inch rear wheels.
