13B-Powered Mazda RX-3 Race Car

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Konstantinos Sidiras from One Lap Heroes interviewed Dirk Gillessen at Nürburgring about his Mazda RX-3. Dirk explains the car was built by his father in 2007 from a rusty shell. The car is now powered by a 1.3 L 13B two-rotor featuring peripheral porting and 51 mm carburetors being fed by three pumps and pre-mixed fuel from a 100-liter cell in the trunk. Dirk estimates it will make 280-290 hp (205-213 kW) at 10,500 rpm. The drivetrain uses a racing manual transmission and RX-3 rear end. Dirk says the 900 kg car rides on a RX-7 front suspension with four-piston front brakes. Listen to Dirk explain how the project came to be before driving it around Nürburgring.
