Ruan Schneider Swaps a Twin-Turbo M157 V8 into a Mercedes AMG G63 6×6
Ruan Schneider worked on getting a rare Mercedes AMG G 63 6×6 that sat for several years back on the road. Ruan explains the SUT (sport utility truck) went in for a service check with some noise coming from the factory twin-turbo 5.5 L M157 V8. Unfortunately the dealer pulled and dissembled the motor believing the ECU had been tuned and fuel contaminated the oil. Whatever the reason Ruan did discover a cracked crankshaft and spun main bearing. So he swapped another twin-turbo 5.5 L M157 V8 from a Mercedes ML 63 AMG (W166/C292). He carried over parts from the old engine to make it work in the G 63 6×6. Behind the V8 is a 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case (0.87:1 high/2.16:1 low). The G 63 has a functioning six-wheel drive with five electronic locking differentials and three portal axles with 30:40:30 power split. Watch Ruan rebuild the unique SUV in the videos below.
