Asmus Motorsport’s Audi TT with a 900+ hp Turbo VR6 in the Back

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Asmus Motorsport in Germany spent the last four years building a first-generation Audi TT (8N) for drag racing. At first the car was powered by a built 1.8T inline-four. Eventually Asmus Motorsport wanted more weight over the rear wheels so they moved the 1.8T to the rear of the car. He raced this configuration for a while until they wanted more power. So out went the 1.8T and in went a turbocharged 3.0 L “R30” VR6 producing 900+ hp (661+ kW). This motor features a 3.2 L block, 2.8 L crankshaft, forged internals, and upgraded camshafts. Boost is generated by a Pulsar G42-1450 turbocharger (max 1200 hp) fed by roof scoop and cooled by a water-to-air intercooler with an ice tank. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 02M (MQ350) six-speed manual transmission with dog gearset and limited-slip differential. Asmus Motorsport adds 30 kg (66 lb) of weight to the front to balance the car on launches.
