Mercedes G 600 TE AMG with a M117 V8
Mercedes specialist Mechatronik is selling a unique vehicle created by Mercedes and AMG in the late-1980s for the 1989 Paris Dakar Rally. The “600 TE AMG” is based on a Mercedes G-class with a M117 V8 taken from the W126 generation cars. The motor displacement was increased to 6.0 liters and produces 331 hp (243 kW) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque. The fuel system had a capacity of 450 liters (118 gallons) using several tanks. The Autopian reports the G-class chassis was reinforced along with the automatic transmission and axles. We could not find details on the specific transmission and differentials used. For the 1989 Paris Dakar Rally, the vehicle retained the classic G-class body. However for 1990 they installed custom fiberglass and aluminum panels with a kevlar underbody skid plate.
