Henry Catchpole was given the opportunity to drive an Alpina B8 4.6 on the Hahntennjoch pass in Austria. Alpina created the unique BMW 328i (E36) with a 4.6 L “F2/1” V8 based on the 4.0 L BMW M60 V8. The motor features an Alpina-specific block cast by BMW with a custom crankshaft, oil pump, oil sump, and exhaust manifolds. The motor produces 333 hp (245 kW) and 470 Nm (346 lb-ft) of torque. Behind the V8 is a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Listen to Henry discuss the car’s unique history with Alpina’s CEO Andreas Bovensiepen before driving it through the Austrian mountains.
