Subaru Impreza Race Car with a 850+ hp EJ22

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Rich White spent many years building the ultimate Subaru Impreza (GC8) for time attack, hillcimb, and track racing. The project starts with a 1998 Impreza Type-R two-door shell and carbon fiber arches, bumpers, doors, and trunk lid. In the engine bay sits a turbocharged 2.35 L EJ22 flat-four which HillClimb Monsters reports makes 850+ hp. It features a billet crankshaft, eight injectors, dry sump, BorgWarner EFR8474 turbocharger, CSK titanium exhaust, and Syvecs S8 ECU. Behind the motor is an AWD drivetrain starting with a Samsonas six-speed sequential transmission and Exedy triple-plate clutch. A carbon fiber driveshaft sends power to a Cusco RS rear differential. The car rides on tubular subframes and EXE-TC 4-way adjustable coilovers. It stops from AP Racing eight-piston front brakes and four-piston rear brakes. Watch Rich take the Impreza around Mallory Park for the Quick60 Challenge.
