The Return of Rusty Slammington

Published in engineswapdepot.com

Mike Burroughs debuted the revival of Rusty Slammington at SEMA 2015. If you remember Rusty was severely damaged in a garage fire in 2011. Sometimes misfortune forces us to take something really good and make it great.

Mike and Byron Wilcox spent the past year and half rebuilding Rusty. They started with the E28 shell and built a completely custom tube chassis that would allow them to essentially customize every aspect of the car from engine placement, suspension type, and ride height. The body and wheelbase have been shortened almost 12 inches. This allowed the car to have a Group 5 racing look.

The previous version was powered by a Toyota 1JZ but this time around Mike decided Rusty would have a German heart. Under the hood sits a BMW S38 inline-six that was built by VAC Motorsports. The displacement has been increased to 3.7 L and upgraded with forged internals, 14:1 compression, and a dry sump oiling system. The engine runs on 110 octane fuel.
