They Said Going Electric Would Ruin This VW Bus EV Conversion
A guy once told me that going electric ruins a VW bus. Then I met Classic EV Conversions in Denver, Colorado and their fully electric 1968 Volkswagen Transporter, a bus that still runs a four speed manual gearbox and will happily light up the tires through every gear. Nick walked me through the whole build at the State of Charge conference. Under the back sits a Netgain Hyper9 motor putting down 125 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, coupled straight to the factory style four speed transmission. Power comes from ten Tesla modules wired into a 53 kWh pack, good for around 130 miles of range, with a hidden J1772 charge port and a setup that doubles as the shop's rolling test rig. They call it Leo. This right here is what EVTuners is all about. A bone stock 1968 bus on the outside, something most people would never expect underneath, built by people who clearly love it. You tell me if it lost anything. Check out @ClassicEVConversions they have a bunch of cool builds going you won't believe.
