Roy rebuilt the rusty shell in one month before setting off on a solo lap of Australia, with his first real test drive taking him some 3,500 kilometres from Sydney to Perth! But this isn't Roy's first adventure in an old Volkswagen. Travelling in vintage VWs he's built himself, Roy has explored Australia, most of Europe, the United States and Canada. His beloved 1964 VW Baja Beetle has carried him across continents, proving that you don't need a modern vehicle, or much of anything, to experience the world. I was already inspired by Roy's ability to take a rusty old Splittie and bring it back to life so quickly. But when we sat down together in regional New South Wales, I discovered there was so much more to his story. Hearing about the challenges he'd faced, and the resilience it took to overcome them, truly blew me away. What started as a conversation about rebuilding classic cars became something far more personal. I hope you feel inspired too.
