Tuff Mounts’ Barra-Powered Fox Body Mustang Makes 1327 hp on the Dyno

Published in engineswapdepot.com

In 2019 Jason Waye from Tuff Mounts built a 1989 Mustang for drag racing. The car was powered by a turbocharged Ford Barra inline-six making 812 hp (597 kW) to the wheels. Behind it was a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission and 9-inch rear end. The car made several dependable runs for several years. Then in 2024 Jason elected to have Adam Rogash at MPW Performance rebuild the car for the 8’s. Adam 3d-scanned the rear to design a custom 4-link suspension around a Mood Motorsports fabricated 9-inch rear end. The Mustang is still powered by a turbocharged Barra inline-six and Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Although the Barra is setup for more power. On 38 psi (2.6 bar) of boost, it made 989 kW (1327 hp) to the hubs. Listen to Adam dyno tune the Mustang in the video below.
