OER Engineering’s 2JZ-Powered Ford Ranger

Logan Melson from OER Engineering is responsible for this unique Ford Ranger. He spent many hours building the compact truck with a powertrain capable of 600+ hp (441+ kW).

Under the hood Logan swapped a turbocharged 3.0 L 2JZ inline-six. It features factory internals and camshafts, Tomei oil baffle pan, and custom exhaust manifold. A Garrett G30-770 turbocharger helps the motor produce 650 hp (478 kW) and 580 lb-ft (786 Nm) of torque. Eventually the motor will receive a Garrett G35-1050 turbocharger.

Behind the motor Logan installed an ACT twin-disc clutch and T56 six-speed manual transmission. A custom steel driveshaft connects to a Ford 8.8-inch rear end with a Torsen T2-R differential and 4.56 ratio.

When it came to the truck’s suspension Logan installed QA1 adjustable shocks and DJM lower control arms and springs in front. In the rear suspension he added Caltrax traction bars and their mono leaf springs. There is also a Cortex Watt’s link designed for a Mustang using a custom adapter on the 8.8 housing. Logan completed the suspension upgrades with a set of Ford Explorer disc brakes.
