Aardema-Braun’s Custom 4.9 L V12
Greg Quirin visited the garage of Pete Aardema and Kevin Braun in San Diego, California to showcase their amazing custom 303 ci (4.96) V12 motor. Greg explains Pet and Kevin spent two and half years designing and building the motor for use in Bonneville D Class racing. The V12 motor features a custom block with a 3.66-inch bore (92.9 mm) and 2.4-inch stroke (60.9 mm). On top are custom six-cylinder heads made using four Oldsmobile Aurora V8 IndyCar heads that were cut and welded together. The motor made 661 hp (486 kW) on JBA Speed Shop‘s dyno. The run was limited by the dyno speed and 10,000 rpm breakin limit. Greg states the motor is capable of 850 hp at 11,000 rpm. Watch as Greg takes you through the full build process before the dyno session.
