BMW 8 Series with a 5.8L S85 V10
Rey Rivera and his company REYN Speed Shop spent four years creating their BMW “858 CSL” using an 850 (E31) chassis and E60 M5 powertrain.
The 850 originally came with a V12 but is now powered by a stroked and bored 5.8 L S85 V10 built by CarBahn. It features a CarBahn 83 mm crank, CarBahn/CP 94 mm forged pistons, Carrillo forged rods, CarBahn valve springs, CarBahn/Clevite racing bearings, and Eventuri air intakes. The motor produces 630 hp (463 kW) and 490 lb-ft (664 Nm) of torque.
Behind the motor is an E60 M5 six-speed manual transmission by Precision Sport Industries (PSI). PSI also helped with the wiring and making all the features work like factory.
The car also incorporates the E60 M5 suspension and a set of Brembo GTS six-piston front brakes and four-piston rear brakes. Covering those are custom 18-spoke wheels designed and built by REYN Speed Shop.
For the exterior Rey turned to designer Jon Sibal to create a widebody using cues from other BMW models. Jon’s design replaced the pop-up headlights for functional air ducts. REYN Speed Shop then turned the design into a full carbon fiber body painted in BMW Silver Grey Metallic color.
The interior features an E60 M5 steering wheel and gauges. Rey also installed a couple E36 M3 seats with Schroth Racing harnesses. The door panels, center console, and other pieces were wrapped in black leather while the headliner is Alcantara.
Listen to Rey explain to Sean Myers from PSI all the work that went into the 858 CSL.
