In 2021 Mike Whiddett started building a custom Mazda3 with TCP Magic in Japan to race at Pikes Peak 2023. The team remove the factory inline-four and FWD drivetrain from the hatchback. In their place they swapped a 26B four-rotor with two Garrett G40-1150 turbochargers. The combo made 1,400 hp on a Haltech ECU. They converted to RWD using a Hollinger six-speed sequential transmission, carbon fiber driveshaft, and Winters quick-change rear end. Mike and the car left Pikes Peak as the fastest Mazda and fastest rotary-powered car to ever reach the top. Fast forward Mike recently brought the wild hatch to World Time Attack Challenge 2024 to drift and race.
