Twin-Turbo 3.0 L Hurricane Inline-Six Crate Motors – 420 hp and 550 hp Versions
Stellantis debuted the twin-turbo 3.0 L Hurricane inline-six in the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The motor will also be offered in the Dodge Charger and Ram 1500 starting in 2025. If you can’t wait to find one of these in the junkyard, you can now buy the crate version. Stellantis sells a Cat 1 HurriCrate for $10,495 and the Cat 3 HurriCrate for $13,745. Each motor features an aluminum block with 186 ci (3.0L) displacement (84 mm bore, 90 mm stroke), Plasma Transfer Wire Arc (PTWA) coating in cylinder bores, forged steel crankshaft, forged steel I-beam rods, and dual water-cooled exhaust manifolds integrated into the heads. The Cat 1 HurriCrate features cast aluminum pistons, 10.4:1 compression ratio, and single high-pressure direct fuel injection. The Cat 3 HurriCrate features forged aluminum pistons with DLC coated pins, 9.5:1 compression, and dual high-pressure direct fuel injection. These differences result in the Cat 1 HurriCrate producing 420 hp (313 kW) and 468 lb-ft (634 Nm) of torque on 22 psi (1.5 bar) of boost while the Cat 3 HurriCrate produces 550 hp (410 kW) and 531 lb-ft (719 Nm) of torque on 26 psi (1.7 bar) of boost.
Below is a video of Scoggin-Dickey testing the Hurricane motor on an engine test rig. These simulate g-force on accelerating, braking, and cornering.
