Subaru Motorsports USA and Vermont SportsCar built “Project Midnight” for outright speed. The custom 2024 Subaru WRX will debut at 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 11-14.

The heart of the project is a custom turbocharged 2.0 L flat-four built by Vermont SportsCar (VSC). The motor features sodium cooled valves, VSC intake manifold, Garrett turbocharger, dry sump system, and VSC anti-lag system. The motor produces 670 hp and 680 lb-ft of torque on a Cosworth Pectel MQ12DI ECU.

Cooling is handled by a PWR front-mounted intercooler and a PWR radiator in the back of the car. Exhaust is routed through a custom Inconel exhaust manifold and 4-inch stainless steel exhaust fabricated by Vermont SportsCar.

The motor is paired to a Sadev six-speed sequential transmission with a triple-plate carbon clutch. Power is sent to all four wheels through a VSC front differential and Sadev rear differential.

The suspension features 3-way adjustable coilovers with VSC control arms, competition hubs, uprights, and crossmembers. Braking is handled by Alcon 350 mm front brakes and 320 mm rear brakes. Covering those are OZ Racing Superturismo LM 18×11-inch wheels with Yokohama ADVAN A005 280/650 tires.

A large focus was placed on weight reduction. So Vermont SportsCar installed a carbon fiber widebody, rear wing, and under-floor protection. They also installed a polycarbonate windshield, side windows, and rear window. This helped with the car’s 1220 kg (2469 lb) weight.

The race-focused interior uses a VSC carbon fiber dash, door cards, and drive footplate. The driver commands the car from a Recaro Spa ProRacer protected by a HANS system, Sparco six-point harness, and FIA-spec T45 roll cage.
