Building a 1964 Impala with a LSx V10

The classic Impala is very popular and has seen about every type of modification there is. But one sure fire way to set yourself apart from the others is to use an engine that no one earth has. The guys at VC Fabrication have teamed up with KC Maxx Performance to build a 1964 Impala two-door hardtop with a GM prototype LSx V10.

KC Maxx says they heard from GM sources that the engine was developed to compete against Ford’s V10 truck and Dodge’s SRT-10 truck. Then the engine was sold by GM in a group of assorted parts to a supplier. Then the supplier sold it to KC Maxx Performance. I am really surprised GM would sell this engine but I am glad since it will make a great project when completed.

The engine uses a 4.00″ bore and 4.00″ stroke giving the engine a displacement of 455 ci or 7.5 liters. The engine also includes five-cylinder displacement on demand (DOD) along with a dual throttle body system allows the engine to run on only five cylinders in a inline-five configuration. KC Maxx was told the engine made 616 horsepower and 789 lb-ft of torque. To read more details on the engine please view LSxTV’s article.
