Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 2JZ-GTE
Anton Artemenko really enjoyed his 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser but wanted something a little different under the hood. The SUV came with a 4.0 L 1GR-FE V6 which produced 237 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. A good amount of power to get the average owner around town but Anton isn’t the average owner.
Anton decided to install a 3.0 L 2JZ-GTE VVTi which produces around 310-320 horsepower on a stock ECU and tune. Other changes to the drivetrain included an A340E automatic transmission and a rear diff with 4.88 gears. The rear end had to be changed because the factory 3.73 (auto) or 3.91 (manual) didn’t do enough for the big tires at low speed.
The engine and transmission were installed using custom mounts. The only modification needed in the engine bay was relocating the power steering fluid reservoir. As Anton put it “everything fits great.”
The upgraded drivetrain allowed the SUV to complete the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds. This time will be dropping soon thanks to a new larger turbocharger Anton is having installed.
